Medicare Update
Congress Overrides Presidential Veto of HR 6331. The House passed this legislation by a 383-41 vote and by a 70-26 Senate vote. What this mean is that there will be an 18 month extension of the therapy cap exceptions process until December 31, 2009 to ensure access for seniors and persons with disabilities to physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology services. With this also the Re-Certification process to continue Physical Therapy has been extended from every 30 days to 90 Days.
Please see the list below to find if your patient falls under the exception rules. If the patient falls under any of the ICD-9 codes below then the $1,810 cap will not apply. In addition the patient must have a new prescription or a Re-Certification every 90 days to continue therapy.
